A day trip to the Isle of Wight

Earlier this week we took the ferry over from Lymington to Yarmouth, it was noticeable that the ferry was going slower than expected - I suspect due to the price of diesel, but the weather was good and we were able to sit out and take in the wonderful views.

As we have joined the National Trust recently we checked out the four floors of the Windmill at Benbridge - on the East coast of the island. The Windmill was built around 1700 and is the only surviving windmill on the Island and it has most of its original machinery intact, though it was suffering with a bit of wood rot, which is not surprising considering its age.

After that we went to Hanover Point / Compton Bay on the South coast - again owned by the National Trust - so we are certainly getting our moneys worth from them.

Here the coast is eroding so quickly - even part of the car park has been washed away and I suspect it will not be long before much more goes into the sea. See the pictures taken, which show where the car park was and also the nature of the rock formation around this point which is soft shale and sandstones.

And there were supposed to be the imprints of dinosaurs on the beach but we did not see them - maybe they had been washed away.
